I know many men and women who serve in the military. Let’s give them more credit. Just as there are no atheists in foxholes, I suspect it could be said that there is no homophobia in foxholes either. I find it hard to imagine that when a soldier is in a Humvee fighting terrorist insurgents, that the thing on his mind is who his fellow soldier chooses to sleep with when he’s off duty.

What’s more, the gay community can no longer place all the blame of marriage equality and Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell on Republicans. Yes, the Republican Party has a long way to go. But right now, we have a Democratic president and a Congress with a Democratic majority. The Republican Party can no longer be the only scapegoat for the arrested development of gay rights in this country. This is a president who made promises to the gay community—hold him responsible.

Of all the things I worry about in my life, my country’s national security is by far at the forefront. I am a daughter of a famous military hero and the sister of two soldiers. Mr. President, Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell makes my family and this country less safe. Put a timeline on repealing it, stop making speeches, and show me the bottom line.

Have you guys ever played with this? It’s kind of a blast. They have webpages from the history of the internet archived, so you can see how they change over time. The E-commerce websites are really fun because they were really crappy back in the day! Check out this early incarnation of barnesandnoble.com.

Hmm do you think that we could get the Jesus Festival on there?

That’s history

That was fucked up...

Edward, that crazy woman making out with you in the car is fucked up.

That’s all I can say.

Really fucked up.

Your apartment complex is so gross.

Juggler

I am the best juggler in the world….

And despite my need to catch every ball perfectly…

Which rarely ever happens….

I manage to keep them all from falling to the ground.

I should be proud of myself for this skill. I should start seeing the value in my hard work and intense focus…

And I should stop worrying about catching the balls perfectly every time…

Because in the end…

I still manage to keep the circle going.

Harry Potter Review and Geek Out

Okay….

So I am writing this review after seeing the film in A’dam on Monday. So it may not be a little fresh and it is probably not very accurate.

But here are the two areas that I want to comment on

1) I think they did a fantastic job with Hermoine and Ron’s relationship. Those are some really great young actors. I really got the feeling of romantic tension and believed it. However, I think that they dropped the ball with Harry and Ginny. The problem lies in the fact that they never really followed through with the other movies that Ginny was madly in love with Harry. Yes, in the chamber of secrets you are told that Ginny had what you could of guessed as a little crush on Harry and in the previous movie there was a very short little scene when Hermoine mentions to Harry that Cho couldn’t keep her eyes off of him…but that was it. Honestly I think that they had done a much better job with Harry liking Cho than with Ginny and Harry. And the climax of their kiss in that room (which wasn’t in the book) was lame.

But, I am not going to rake them over the coals for this, because the truth is that the book is just too complicated to be told in all detail. The luxury of a book is that you can put it down and so its very nature is suppose to be slow. But, a movie in every sense has to keep the watchers moving along very quickly in a course of three hours. So although I am sadden by the sort of half fast approach to Harry and Ginny, I can’t really blame them.

I mean even lord of the rings had to cut out of its theatrical rendition the romance between Eowyn and Faramir. That is why geeks like me had their gay boyfriends buy the complete box set with the four different commentaries…lame.

2) I think they did a great job with Draco. They really transformed him from a little weasel to a character that you feel sorry for. I believed it. I liked who they chose for his mother. So all in all good work.

I think that I will probably see it again tomorrow night in A’dam. Maybe I will have a clearer picture on what I feel about it. But, lately I have become far less critical than I use to be. Maybe because I too have sympathy for people who try to do something or put their sweat, blood, and tears into something. It’s funny how less critical you become as you age.
